Tufts Dining announced plans for new menu items with a Haitian twist on American classics at many on-campus dining locations. Starting soon, the Fresh at Carmichael Dining Center will offer German shepherd’s pie and chicken poodle soup. Meanwhile, Dewick-MacPhie Dining Center will offer 100% hound-beef patties along with pupperoni pizza.
Tufts Dining’s to-go locations will also feature revamped menu items. Pax et Lox Kosher Deli will replace their “salmon sandwich” with a new beagle and lox. PanAsia bowls at Hodgdon Food-on-the-Run will add a new topping option: garlic roasted collieflower. Finally, Kindlevan Café will debut great Danish pastries.
Additionally, Tufts Dining hinted at a new dish, tofu with terrieryaki sauce, on their Instagram page. It is not yet clear which dining location will feature this highly-anticipated item.
“We at Tufts Dining continually strive to be more inclusive with our menus. We hope these new options will introduce more people to the diverse Haitian palette and give Haitian students at Tufts a taste of home,” a spokesperson for Tufts Dining said.
Tufts Dining denied any connection between their proposed menu and President Trump’s claim that Haitian immigrants were “eating cats and dogs.”
“We have been working on our Haitian-inspired menu long before Mr. Trump’s comments. What did he say again?”
A Haitian student shared their perspective with The Zamboni. “I found the proposed menu very insensitive to Haitian people. We also eat cats.”
