David Klein, a Tufts undergrad who mysteriously disappeared in the fall of 1996, was recently discovered in the basement of Lewis Hall, where his mummified and crispy body was found propping open the door to the Crafts Center.
While waiting in Lewis’ basement for a dryer to be open, Klein died of food poisoning linked to his participation in the wildly popular “No Gloves Day” at Dewick. After his passing, the sophomore was quickly swarmed and exsanguinated by cockroaches. The shriveled body would remain relatively undisturbed until it was discovered by Jared “Squeegee” Robertson this Thursday during Tufts’ decennial cleaning of Lewis.
A review by TUPD quickly identified the body as Klein using the Weezer t-shirt and Beanie Babies found on its person, which matched descriptions of the missing student. Members of the Tufts community were shocked by the discovery, as generations of Jumbos fondly remember the corpse as the unofficial mascot of Lewis Hall.
“I just thought it was a really bad-smelling Halloween decoration,” said Jonah Roven-Markley, a junior who moved the corpse into their room last year.
